ANCIENT CULTURE FESTIVAL
History tells us that differences between cultures has caused argument, fights and even wars. When we celebrate differences in cultures, both ancient and modern, we can promote peace and harmony. In this unit, we celebrate our ancient cultural roots, differences between ancient cultures and how they have influenced us today.
We also observe how cultural differences and misunderstanding led to war and clashes between cultures. We then will brainstorm what cultural differences and misunderstandings happen in our city, country and world. We will brainstorm and come up with ways to create more peace in our relationships, locally, nationally and internationally.
To close off our study, we will have a festival where we celebrate unique ancient cultures and educate our community about the uniqueness of different cultures. Through celebrating cultural differences, we are aiming to create a more peaceful and harmonious society today.

developing a website
We will be using www.wix.com to develop engaging, visually dynamic websites to excite our audience for our festival presentations.
1. Cruise through the many templates on WIX to decide which one bests suits the amount of subtopics you have and matches the tone of your ancient culture.
2. Complete the tutorial videos online or attend mini-lessons with your teacher or a peer on how to use WIX.
3. WEBQUEST: Find a 5-7 quality pictures which best capture each subtopic. Upload them to a gallery on each tab/subtopic.
4. Insert your paragraphs into each subtopic on your website. Don't forget your reference list!

the dramatic arts
Part of your website will be a video documenting ancient life in the culture you chose. Do a webquest with your partner and find a topic you are interested in. Dress up, find the perfect location to shoot and complete a 3-4 minute video. Your video can be done with your partner and can be inserted on each website.
Ideas:
1. Find an ancient story, either real or fictional, that you and your partner are interested in performing.
2. Research ancient war implements and do a demonstration of how they worked (without damaging you, your partner or your home!)
3. Research ancient recipes and kitchen tools. Do an ancient food preparation demonstration on video.
4. Perform a fashion show documenting the variety of dress styles used in your culture.
5. Build a model of a building or structure from the culture you are studying. Video the different rooms and architectural traits of the model while talking about them.
6. Other ideas? Great - bring them to your teacher, and get approval.
7. Upload your video to a private link on the CLE website. Link it to your WIX website on a separate tab, or if appropriate, on your home page.

time travel to your "dream culture"
Which ancient culture would be the best to live in? What criteria would you base your judgement on and why?
